VIOLET-BACKED STARLING is named for an African starling with a metallic purple head, back, wings and tail and a white breast. VIOLET-BACKED STARLING is a patterned dark violet-purple on petals and lighter sepals, a chalky gray eye and edge, with a yellow applique to a green throat. VIOLET-BACKED STARLING has 3-way branching, 20 buds. Fertile both ways.
